10 Most Memorable Fashion Moments from the VMAs

One of music’s biggest nights, the MTV Video Music Awards, is set for take-off on Sunday August 30, 2015! Celebs from the industry will gather at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles for the award show, hosted by mega-star Miley Cyrus. The VMA’s have always been an evening of excitement and truly memorable moments; both on and off the stage. With the night being a little more laid-back, stars tend to let loose when it comes to their fashion choices. We’ve decided to take a stroll down memory and recap the 10 Most Memorable Moments of VMA fashion! Let’s go way back, back to the beginning. The year? 1984.

1984: Madonna took the stage to perform the title single from her up-and-coming album, Like A Virgin. It was the VMA’s inaugural year and she set the bar high at 26 years old. The Queen of Pop appeared as the bride atop a 17-foot wedding cake, wearing a sexy wedding dress and adorned in rosaries, pearls and a “Boy Toy” belt buckle.

1998: Gwen Stefani rocked an iconic outfit to the ‘84 award show. She paired a baby-blue fuzzy bikini top with a black hovering skirt over black pants and platform sandals. To add her unique twist on the look, she accessorized with jelly bracelets and bindi crystals. The look was topped off with blue hair to match her top and the rest is history.

1998: Rose McGowan & Marilyn Manson made VMA history when they walked the red carpet in ‘98. Rose wore a dress…if that’s what you want to call it. The front was made completely of black mesh and the back featured chain detailing to “cover up” her rear.

1998: Miss Lil’ Kim showed up and out in a shimmering lavender single-sleeve jumpsuit. The look had an ocean motif as the jumpsuit was comprised of a scale-like sea-shell pattern. To take the look to the next level she added a sea-shell pasty to one of her lovely lady lumps. During the show Diana Ross even had the chance to cop a feel.

2000: Remember the days when J.Lo and Puff Daddy (aka Diddy) were a couple?! In 2000 they walked the carpet together keeping it simple in all-white. J.Lo rocked a Sean Jean cropped tank with a jewel encrusted bandana. The pair made sure to bring on the bling to add the necessary sparkle to their looks.

2001: Britney Spears gave it her all in one of her top performances ever! In a glittering black tux and fedora Ms. Spears performed her own rendition of “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.” Once that was through, she ripped off the tux revealing a nude getup covered in rhinestones; to which she performed an amped up version of “Oops…I Did It Again.”

2003: Before Christina Aguilera took the stage with Madonna and Britney for their re-vamp of “Like A Virgin,” she strutted her stuff down the red carpet in a hot pink feathered Roberto Cavalli mini dress.

2010: Lady Gaga certainly got the world’s attention as she made her third costume change at the 2010 VMA’s. Designed by Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti, the dress was named by Time as the top fashion statement of 2010. On the Ellen show, she explained, “we have to fight for our rights, so we can have as much rights as the meat on our bones.”

2013: After her twerk-tastic performance with Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus caused a stir across the globe! She wore a furry and funky onsie that looked like a high Chuck-E-Cheese character. Mid-way through her performance she shed the fur and bared a nude latex two-piece outfit. Her costume was all the rage for Halloween that year!

2014: Katy Perry and Riff Raff gave a huge nod to Britney and Justin’s denim-duo outfits! Katy had custom Versace outfits designed for them as a throwback to the pop power-couple.
